Costa Brava Discover Blanes
If you’re wondering what to see in Blanes , the first thing you need to know is where it is. Blanes is located in the south of the Costa Brava , in the province of Girona , right at the point where this coastline begins to change. Here, you move from wide, accessible beaches to a much more rugged landscape, with coves, cliffs and coastal paths.
Blanes is about an hour from Barcelona, but it’s already part of the most authentic Costa Brava. From here, you can easily explore places like Lloret de Mar or Tossa de Mar, as well as walk sections of the Camino de Ronda.

Sun and beach holidays Beaches and coves in Blanes
From livelier areas to spots where the surroundings are much more natural, here are several options that are well worth a visit to enjoy the Blanes coastline.

La Palomera The official start of the Costa Brava
La Palomera divides Blanes beach and officially marks the start of the Costa Brava. It is a simple place, but one with significance. Here you can stop, take in the surroundings and either head towards more natural areas or continue enjoying the beach atmosphere. It is the closest beach to our hostel.

Cala Sant Francesc Easy access and natural surroundings
It is one of the most well-rounded and highly recommended coves in Blanes. It is easily accessible, yet retains a well-maintained and pleasant landscape. The water is usually clearer and the atmosphere more relaxed than on the main beaches.

Sa Forcanera The hidden cove
Near the Marimurtra Botanical Garden lies Sa Forcanera, a cove that is less accessible and, precisely for that reason, all the more special. It isn’t the most convenient option, but it is certainly one of the most authentic. Here, the surroundings are wilder and the sense of getting away from it all is greater. If you like exploring, it’s well worth the effort.

S’Abanell Beach Space, comfort and a peaceful atmosphere
If you’re looking for a practical option, S’Abanell is the largest beach in Blanes. It offers space, facilities and a relaxed atmosphere where you can spend several hours without a care in the world. It’s perfect for alternating with more active days or even for quiet activities such as strolling or fishing.
Local cuisine What to eat in Blanes
In Blanes, the cuisine isn’t just a bonus to the trip; it’s part of the experience. As a town with a seafaring tradition, fresh produce makes all the difference , especially when it comes to fish and seafood arriving straight from the harbour.
At the restaurant of Hostal Can Setmanes, you can sample the most representative dishes of our local cuisine: suquet de peix, rice dishes, pa amb tomàquet, Blanes prawns…

Experience the Costa Brava Activities at sea
Here are some options that are particularly well suited to the local coastline:
Shore fishing: in rocky or less crowded areas, it’s a peaceful activity that really connects you with the local rhythm
Kayaking between coves: one of the best ways to reach less accessible spots and see the coast from a different perspective.
Snorkelling in rocky areas: where the seabed changes, the water is usually clearer and there is more marine life.

The best views: Viewpoints, trails and gardens
Beyond the beaches, Blanes is best enjoyed on foot. The gentle slopes, the strolls through its gardens, the paths by the sea and the high vantage points mean you always have a different view.

St. John's Castle The most comprehensive viewpoint in Blanes
Climbing up to Castillo de San Juan is one of the best ways to get to know Blanes. From the top, you have a panoramic view that clearly shows the transition between wide beaches and a more rugged coastline.

The Coastal Path Walking amongst coves and cliffs
The Coastal Path is one of the top things to do in Blanes. You don’t need to walk the whole thing. Just walking a section is enough to appreciate its charm: open views, constantly changing scenery and small coves where you can stop. It’s a very natural way to discover the coast.

Marimurtra Botanical Garden The must-see spot with views of the Mediterranean
The Marimurtra Botanical Garden is one of the most stunning spots in Blanes. You can walk there from the centre in about 15–20 minutes, and the walk itself is part of the experience. As you climb, the surroundings change and the sea begins to open up before you.

Santa Clotilde Botanical Garden In Lloret de Mar
Another beautiful botanical garden very close to our hostel, in the neighbouring town of Lloret de Mar. The Santa Clotilde Gardens are a Noucentista-style garden situated on a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
A very special event Fireworks
The International Fireworks Competition is one of the most important events in the area.
If you happen to be here during this time, Blanes is transformed: a livelier atmosphere, more activity and evenings centred around the show.

A peaceful stroll Historic centre
Away from the coast, the centre of Blanes offers a more peaceful atmosphere.
Narrow streets, squares and small shops where you can stroll at your leisure. It’s a great way to change pace after a day at the beach.
